“Backwoods” spots you don’t want to miss!
The Polebridge Mercantile and the town of Polebridge itself guard the less-traveled northwestern entrance to Glacier National Park. This is our favorite place to escape the hustle and bustle of West Glacier summers! The bakery nestled in the ‘merc’ serves up the most scrumptious array of goodies from huckleberry macaroons and bearclaws to hot pastrami and meatball sandwich pockets. Skip the crowds and head to Polebridge to join the locals in their little sanctuary of The West!
The Northern Lights Saloon
Located next to the Mercantile in Polebridge, MT, the Northern Lights serves up delicious dinner nightly! Down-home cooking (best burgers in the west) and a large selection of Montana micro-brews, wines and whiskey make this a must-stop place to eat after a hike to Numa lookout or along Bowman Lake. The saloon is owned by two couples who work nightly serving locally-sourced meats and veggies grown in their garden just behind the mercantile. The rustic, laid-back atmosphere will have you chatting with fellow travelers and reconsidering your plans to return to fast-paced life outside of Glacier Country.
The Snow Slip
The Snow Slip Inn opened originally in 1945 with a café, motel, campground and bar. Today, it is an excellent road site stop on US Hwy 2 south of Glacier Park and north of the Great Bear Wilderness area. The café is open year round, daily from 7am to 10pm with great home-style Montana cuisine. The Snow Slip Cafe is popular local hangout, (which means their prices are fantastic) & you’ll find a great mix of people there that are friendly and love to share their knowledge of the area, so don’t be shy, ask away!
2 Sisters Café
The 2 Sisters Café is located on the east side of Glacier Park, near Baab, Montana. 2 sisters offers up a wide array of delicious plates daily and has many vegetarian offerings. The restaurant is small and fills up quick with both locals and travelers, so put your name on the waiting list and soak up the amazing views of the park from their porch with a huckleberry margarita in hand!
